The space between my mother and myself has constantly been in flux growing up. We tend to clash and fight when we are together but at the same time we are best friends and enjoy each other’s company. This paradoxical relationship has left me confused ever since I was a preteen. This piece explores that connection and disconnection between us in both a literal way being away from home and an emotional way. The blue neon acts as the essence of our relationship that is forever radiating and electric. I chose to use fabric to highlight our bonding activities sewing and crafting together. I admire my mother and wish to be like her in so many ways and this piece is a homage to our relationship.
